Below are two options for how to spend the day in Sequoia National Park.
One Day Sequoia National Park Itinerary (Itinerary with special considerations for kids with ADHD five and older)
Option 1.
- Park at Wuksachi Lodge between 8:00- 8:30 am.
- Use the bathrooms in Wuksachi Lodge.
- Take a picture of the lunch menu to decide what to eat at a later time.
- Get on the Shuttle at Wuksachi and ride to the Accessible Sherman Tree Trail.
- Take your time walking to the Sherman Tree, taking pictures, and walking back. (If it’s a weekend or holiday, there will be lines for the shuttle. In the middle of the week, you’ll have more time to explore and less time waiting in line.)
- Get in line for the shuttle back to Wuksachi Lodge.
- Look at the menu and decide what to eat while on the shuttle.
- Aim to be back at Wuksachi Restaurant by 11:00 am.
- Send most of your group out to the restaurant deck to sit in the shade of a parasol and hold a place for your group to sit.
- Send one or two people to stand in line at the restaurant and order for everyone.
- Take time to enjoy your food!
- Send everyone to use the bathrooms.
- Get on the Shuttle for The Accessible Sherman Tree Trail.
- At The Sherman Tree, switch shuttles to the green line and take the shuttle to The Giant Forrest Museum.
- At the Giant Forrest Museum Immediately take the hiking trail to Moro Rock. It’s 3.5 kilometers (or 2.17 miles) to Moro Rock and took us about 45-55 minutes with the kids. We stopped two short times to drink and eat a quick snack. We weren’t walking fast. We were enjoying the views.
- At Moro Rock
- Take turns walking to the top if…
- Someone in your group is afraid of heights and needs someone to wait with them.
- You have young kids (who don’t understand to stay away from dangerous drop-offs and insufficient railings), don’t take small children to the top.
- Don’t go to the top if…
- There is a thunderstorm.
- If it’s dusk or dark.
- If you are terrified of heights.
- Take turns walking to the top if…
- Take the young kids who didn’t climb the rock on a hunt for the small Sequoia pine cones and giant Sugar Pine cones. (The pine cones must stay in the park)
- Good to know
- There are bathrooms at Moro rock if the kids need to go while you wait.
- You can fill your water bottle at the outside tap.
- Good to know
- Get on the Shuttle back to The Giant Forrest Museum.
- Stand in line for the shuttle. (If there is a long line back to Wuksachi Lodge, let someone stand there and take turns looking at the museum with the kids. Mainly long lines on weekends and holidays)
- See the Museum.
- Look at the gift shop.
- Take the shuttle back to Wuksachi Lodge.
- If it’s not too late, eat.
- Have a picnic with the food you brought and left in the cooler in your car
- Eat at the restaurant.
- Eat in the car if it’s late.
- Leave in time to drive out of the park before dark.
This itinerary is created to give you a stress-free day. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RUSH!
Adjust how much time you spend in the Museum and gift shop, so you leave the park on time to drive while it’s light.

This Sequoia Park itinerary includes a picnic lunch you’ll need to pack and carry in your daypack.
- Park at Wuksachi Lodge between 8:00- 8:30 am.
- Use the bathrooms in Wuksachi Lodge.
- Take a picture of the menu if you want to eat supper there.
- Get on the Shuttle at Wuksachi and ride to the Accessible Sherman Tree Trail.
- Take your time walking to the Sherman Tree, taking pictures, and walking back. (If it’s a weekend or holiday, there will be lines for the shuttle. In the middle of the week, you’ll have more time to explore and less time waiting in line.)
- Get in line for the shuttle to Crescent Meadow.
- At Crescent Meadow parking, take the 1.5-mile (2.4-km) loop trail around Crescent Meadow. (Takes about 30 min.)
- Crescent Meadow offers…
- A flat walking trail.
- An ideal place for photography.
- Opportunities to explore the giant sequoias up close, see wildflowers, and possibly spot wildlife grazing in the meadow.
- Crescent Meadow offers…
- Walking the trail, find a nice place to eat a picnic lunch. Take a blanket with you in case all the picnic tables are taken.
- Take the next shuttle to Moro Rock.
- At Moro Rock
- Take turns walking to the top if…
- Someone in your group is afraid of heights and needs someone to stay with them.
- You have young kids (who don’t understand to stay away from dangerous drop-offs and insufficient railings), don’t take small children to the top unless they are in some way attached to your body (Baby Bjorn, child leash, etc.)
- Don’t go to the top if…
- There is a thunderstorm.
- If it’s dusk or dark.
- You are terrified of heights
