Write a Book Review

I am extremely grateful to all of you who leave a review. I know your time is precious.

There are several places to review books. The most effective reviews are written on Amazon, but Goodreads and LibraryThing are also great for reviews.

Amazon

You must spend $50.00 on Amazon during the last year to leave a review. This is a problem if you don’t regularly use Amazon. I suggest going to Amazon and scrolling down the book’s page till you see the button for leaving a review. Click and see if Amazon approves you.

You must log into Amazon from the country where you live. If you regularly buy things on Amazon.se or Amazon.co.uk that is where you must leave a review. That means you may not be able to review the same version of the book that you bought. If you own the Kindle ebook it was most likely bought on Amazon.com, and unless you buy more than $50 from the Kindle store each year you’ll need to leave a review on the paperback where you usually purchase items.

I wasn’t allowed to write a review when I wanted to review a friend’s book. I bought a few things I was already planning to buy, but that isn’t feasible for everyone. If you can’t leave an Amazon review move on to the other platforms.

Goodreads

To leave a review on Goodreads you must first sign up for a good reads account. The important thing to remember is not to use Facebook, Google, etc. to sign up for or sign into your Goodreads account. Goodreads pulls lots of information from these third parties when you use them to sign up/in, and that seems to slow down the functionality of Goodreads. On top of that Goodreads shares the information they acquire from Facebook etc. with Amazon, and some people think Amazon uses this information to delete reviews from Facebook friends.

LibraryThing

Reviews on LibraryThing are pretty straightforward once you have a LibraryThing account.

  • Search for the book you want.
  • Click on the book cover or title text.
  • You may find it pops up in a box with information about the book etc. Click on the title text.
  • You’ll be redirected to the book’s page.
  • Find the word ‘Reviews’ in the text menu on the left-hand side (see the picture).
  • Click the word ‘Reviews.’ It will send you to the review page.
  • Write your review in the box.
